TIMBER PESTS.
DANGER FROM WHITE PINE. *j POSITION IN AUSTRALIA. SY CABLE—PEEBB ASSOCIATION—COPYfcIGET' SYDNEY, June 21. Mi- Froggart, Government Forest Entomologist, in an official report on timber pests, recommends that the importation of New Zealand white pine should be prohibited and its use for building purposes discontinued on the ground that it is said to be badly infested with the larvae of the European furniture beetle. He warns the public against wasting money on some reputed pest remedies now being offered. Air Froggart says, regarding hardwoods, that except _ where sapwood has been used there is little or no danger of serious damage from the powder pest beetle. He recommends the application of a mixture of kerosene and crude creosote, and considers that with ordinary precaution there is litcle danger of foreign _ borers gaining a foothold in Australian forests. —Aus.-N.Z.
