GENERAL TELEGRAMS.

—— CAWTHRON TRUST. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON. June 24. About five hundred people attended an adjourned mass meeting at the Theatre Royal last evening, called to protest against the Cawthron Trust Private Bill. The speakers were the Mayor (Mr. W. Lock), CY Moffatt, and Mr. H. Atmore. M.4 > . They contended that the Trust, with the exception of Air. W. Rout, named in the will, should still lie composed only of the holders of the various public offices mentioned in the will, mi the grounds that the people should control the Trust and that there should be no permanent trustees as was also provided for in the will. At the conclusion of the speeches A!r. Atmore moved a motion objecting to the Bill on these grounds. Mr. C. R. Fell moved an amendment approving of the Bill. The amendment, which received substantial support, was lost on the. voices, and the motion was similarly carried by a good majority.
