DAIRYMEN.
AUCKLAND CONFERENCE,. THE N.D.A. iBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, June 23. The annual meeting of the National Dairy Association and the conference of the North Auckland dairymen is proceeding. Farming representatives are attending the two functions. At the North Auckland conference, Air A. Alorton, the chairman (Taranaki), and the retiring executive were re-elected. A comparative statement of the freezing charges on butter and cheese in Juiy last- showed that the Auckland charges in every case were less than in other centres. Owing to a loss having been made in cheese, an increase in freezing rates was being considered. At the North Auckland dairy conference a resolution was passed that, in view of the extra clerical work entailed by business people obtaining orders ofi suppliers’ cheques, the Government be asked to exempt co-opera-tive dairy companies from the main Act and allow the companies to carry on legitimate business without being made a debt-collecting agency for the benefit- of outside people. Other remits' carried were that the dairy factory directorate be the voting unit for the election of members of the Dairy Control Board; that the Dairy Control Act should provide for the election of the Dairy Council of thirty members, namely, twenty North Island and ten South Island members, elected by the dairy factory directorates in each provincial or sub-provincial district, thus giving a wider representation of the industry for consultation with the Control Board upon any matter for which the board lias called it into conference; that the matter of the depreciation of factory plant and equipment be brought under the notice of the Commissioner of Taxes with a view of having a uniform and equitable scale allowed in the rncome tax return.
