GISBORNE SITTINGS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PBESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, June 2-1. At the Supreme Court, in the Opotiki assault case, in which Milton Crosswell was charged with breaking into the house of a woman 91 years of age and committing a crime, the jury returned a verdict of guilty "on the charges of breaking, entering and indecent assault, and not guilty on a charge of rape, adding a rider that prisoner was of less than average mentality, and as this class of case was continually occurring the Government should set up institutions to receive offenders of this class. Gwynne Yates was found guilty of obtaining goods by means of a wireless cheque aucl false pretences, and. with Nelson Jeffcote Horne, who pleaded guilty to the same charges, was remanded for sentence. William Edward Bullivant, who pleaded guilty to making a false declaration of marriage, was remanded for sentence.
SERIOUS CRIMES. CHRISTCHURCH. June 21. Robert Thomas Retailick, for indecent assault cm males was sentenced to three years’ hard labour. FALSE DOCUAIENTS. CHRISTCHURCH. June 24. At the Supreme Court C. R. A. Jones, aged 29, was sentenced to reformative treatment for three years for making false documents.
