The Times, in a leader, says: ‘Opposition is silently but surely vising against the Empire policy of tne MacDonald Cabinet, which has dealt three blows at the very unity of the Empire' — the abandonment of the Singapore base, the abandonment of the McKenna duties, and the rejection of the preference resolutions. “The debate, especially .the narrow majorities by which the resolutions were defeated, provided interesting evidence that unexpected eyes are being opened and new alarm is being felt at the danger, adding another to so many lost opportunities. Indeed,, there is everywhere evidence of a growing movement in favour of the acceptance of. the Conservative policy of strengthening and developing the Empire Res.”
