BOARD OF INQUIRY. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.I WELLINGTON, June 20. At the railway inquiry Mr M. Connelly (president of the A.S.R.S.i stated that the society had agreed to withdraw the remit asking that, where any guard or assistant guard was away from his home station on duty, he should be booked off duty with consequent loss of pay, but work should be provided for him. It had also been decided to withdraw the request that a special Sunday duty under the regulations be defined.
Mr. Sterling intimated that the Department was prepared to concede two hours instead of three hours standing time as requested when a man was booked off for less than eight hours at his home station. _ The questions of broken shifts, the time between shifts, and standing time, and working hours are being discussed. The inquiry resumes to-morrow.
