The South Africans’ first innings realised 263—Taylor 126, Nourse 48. Louden took six wickets for 71 runs. Essex in their second innings made 296 for seven wickets—Nicholas 50, Russell 108, O’Connor 51 —when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good. Taylor played a superb, chanceless innings, and batted 145 minutes. Nourse was., sound, and Russell batted three hours, and displayed clean cutting and driving.—Reuter. COUNTY MATCHES. LONDON.
