TOURNEY AT WIMBLEDON. Received June 20, 12.20 p.m. LONDON, June 19. At the Wimbledon ladies’ international lawn tennis tourney, Britain heat America, winning the first four of seven matches. Miss McKane heat Miss Wills, 6—2, 6—2, being superior in all departments.— Reuter. CRICKET. SOUTH AFRICA v. ESSEX. Received June 20, 12.10 p.m. LONDON, June 19. The South Africans’ first innings realised 263—Taylor 126, Nourse 48. Louden took six wickets for 71 runs. Essex in their second innings made 296 for seven wickets—Nicholas 50, Russell 108, O’Connor 51 —when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good. Taylor played a superb, chanceless innings, and batted 145 minutes. Nourse was., sound, and Russell batted three hours, and displayed clean cutting and driving.—Reuter. COUNTY MATCHES. LONDON. June 18. The closing scores on the first day were: Middlesex.made 233 —Mann 83. Kent made 54 for three wickets. Somerset made 132, and Yorkshire made 163 for one wicket—Sutcliffe 78, Oldroyd 61. HOCKEY. Hinemoa Ramblers defeated Technical School B team on Wednesday by one goal to nil, the' goal being scored by Miss Woolliams. Mr. Fryer refereed.
