Austin Biron Bidwill, one of the principals in the extensive forgeries on the Bank of England in 1873, haa died at Montana.

Bidwell, his brother George, and two other Americans, Edwin Hayes and Macdonnell, by the means of forged foreign bills of exchange, defrauded the Bank's West Branch of £102,217. The frauds were discovered through the non-dating of one of the bills. All four were sentenced to penal servitude for life, their plot to escape by bribing the warders failing. Bidwell was released some time ago on the ground of ill-health.
