WESTRALIAN BUDGET.

A SATISFACTORY STATEMENT

(Per Press Association. — Copyright.) Pkuth, This day. In the Legislative Assembly Sir G. Forest delivered his Budget speech. He stated that the year closed with a credit balance of £815,000, and he estimated the surplus for the ensuing year at £40,000. All public works in progress, including the Coolgardie water scheme will be pushed on. It is intended to make Fremantle a port of call for the mail steamers. The loans raised by the colony amounted to £7,000,000, and authority was given for a further £5,000,000. He did not intend to ask the sanctioning of further loans. He stated that the railway revenue not only paid interest on the railway loans, but on the total debt of the colony.
