A STEAMER FOUNDERS IN THE STRAITS OF MALACCA. • 110 LIVES LOST. (Per Press Association.—(_'<■],i/ri;>ht., Sydney, July 23. Eastern news contains information that the steamer Saihong Ann, with a large, number of European, Chinese, and Malayan passengers, foundered in the Straits of Malacca, and sunk in three minutes. A hundred and ten of those on board, including Allen, the chief engineer and several other Europeans, were drowned. Many influential Malacca and Singapore families lost relatives. Captain Rawlingson and the second engineer, Gomez, were rescued on a floating box.
