Auckland Mining News.

THE PRESS ASSOCIATION BOOMING THE FIELDS. [By Telegraph.] (Per Press Association.) Auckland, This day. There is likely to be a great increase in battery power on the Auckland gold fields at an early date. During the past fortnight one local firm sent in tenders for no less than 800 head of stampers. This by no means represents all the batteries to be erected in a few months. Considerable attention is being paid by the various exploration companies to the Great Barrier Islands-as a field for mining investment. Though the area of the present mining district is small several properties have been taken up on working option—viz., the Barrier gold and silver property, by an Otago syndicate; the original Great Barrier, by a Johannesburg-New Zealand exploration company; Great Barrier gold and silver estates, by Melville's co-operation ; Aotea, by he Johannesburg-New Zealand exploration company, who have combined with the Otago syndicate. It is understood that negotiations are proceeding for taking up under option other properties on the Island. A large area on the north of the Island said to contain rich copper bearing lodes was recently purchased. If the development of the works results satisfactorily it is probable thac the Island will receive further attention at the hands of the colonial representatives and London and other syndicates.
