Accidents and Fatalities.
(I't i Pus* Aw iuti' H.) Di nedin, This day. The body of a newly-born baby was found on the doorstep of the mam police station yesterday. A man named Thomas Butchart, 51 vears of age, met with a fatal accident on Saturday. He was engaged in shunting at Otakia, when he slipped and fell, a carriage passing over his leg and dreadfully mangling it. He was brought to town by the express, but died in the hospital this morning from shock and loss of blood. The deceased was for many years station master at Dunedin, and was transferred toTapanui and Kelso, where he resigned from the service, going into business. Latterly he had been casually employed by the* Railway Department at Dunedin. Deceased was a son in-law of Brebner, one of the earliest settlers in Otago, and leaves a wife and four children. Sir William Clarke died suddenly in Melbourne on Saturday of heart disease. While stepping from a tram he staggered and fell. He was removed to the Union Club, but died in a few ruinates.
