An Important Gold Discovery.
AT A COROMANDEL MINE. (By Telegraph.) (Per Press Association.) Auckland, This day. Most important developments have occurred at Scotty's Hauraki mine, Coromandel. The property is held by an English Company. Very rich stone has been obtained at a depth of 855 ft. The superviser, Captain Hodge, states the discovery does not appear to be a mere pocket, for the reef is a strong body sft. wide, and there is every reason to expect the run of gold stone obtained yesterday id equal to anything found in the Hauraki mine. Of 1501b. of specimens obtained on breaking down, one piece of 501b. weight realised £3OO. The discovery should, Capt. Hodge says, exert a powerful influence on mining in this locality if it turns out the value as well as is expected. From the present outlook it will have afar-reaching and beneficial effect. Mr Hartvidge, chairman of directors of several large Anglo-New Zealand Companies, was present at the breaking down.
