The proposal of the St. Alban's Borough Council to borrow £22,500 for carrying out necessary works, was rejected yesterday, the voting being for loan 286, against 203, informal 16. The well-known Native chief, Te Whitiu, who ranks next to Te Whiti and Tohu, is lyiDg dangerously ill at Parihaka, and the Natives are gathering from all directions in anticipation of his decease. Dunedin, This day. The Tuapeka Consolidated Mine has shut down owing to the scarcity of water, and the Glandblock is likely to follow suit.
