Street Alignment.
A SERIOUS QUESTION IN WELLINGTON. [By Telegraph.] (I'er I'reus Awnriation.) Wellington, This day. The question of encroachment on the city streets is coming to a head. About 850 notices have been served by the Council on occupiers, and some of the latter intend to resist at anycost. They contend the alignments followed the original survey, some of them fifty years old, and the Council has no right to interfere now. In other cases the Council itself failed to cut the streets the properwidth by a foot or two, and where the houses are built up to the edge of a steep bank. It is a serious and expensive thing for owners if compelled to interfere with their property, and it will greatly depreciate the value. It i. suggested to take and try one or two extreme cases by way of a test.
