The jury at an inquest held at Christchurch recently on the body of a child one month old, returned a recommendation that before an infant is weaned, in order to be licensed out. a doctor's certificate should be obtained that it was -strong enough to be taken from the mother. The inquest was under the Infant Life Protection Act. Among the passengers for Europe, by the Alameda, is Professor Thomas, of Auckland University. The premises of F. J Bennett, draper Queen-street, Auckland, were burglariously entered last night and some wearing apparels stolen but no cash. Mr E. Hesketh's Epsom stables and coachhouse were burned down on Saturday night. Damage, £"500; insurance, £3OO in the National. The Christchurch boating season opened with the usual ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Though the weather was fine during progess of the events, heavy rain which fell for some hours in the morning interfered with the attendence,
