Before the Electoral Act Amendment Bill was put through its final stages it was recommitted and by 28 to 26 the clause added by Sir Itobert Stout giving co-operative workers the advantage of voting by means of electoral rights was struck out. On the Premier's motion the Electrical Motive Power Bill was amended in Committee by the addition of a clause giving the Governor-in-Council power from time to time to cause enquiries to be made as to the feasibility of utilising the water ways of the colony for the purpose of supplying electrical motive power for use on the goldfields, after which it was put through its remaining stages. The Council put a couple of Bills through their final stages yesterday afternoon. In the Orchard and Garden Pests Bill, American blight was by 10 to 8 struck out from the list of diseases which owners of orchards are compelled to keep in check, and a proviso was added to the effect that the Inspectors under the Bill, might to suit the climate vary the season during which the owner of an orchard must dress his trees. The clause in the Government Valuation of Land Bill dealing with the appointment of officers under the Bill was amended to provide that the Valuer-General to be appointed should be the Commissioner of Taxes for the time being. At the evening sitting the amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Government Valuation Bill were agreed to. On the motion to go into Committee of Supply, Sir Robert Stout moved that in the opinion of the House it is desirable that proper provision be made for carrying 011 the Middle District of New Zealand University College. The Minister of Lands opposed the amendment, and it was defeated by 35 to 20. The House then went into Com. mittee of Supply on the Supplimentary Estimates. The Hansard vote passed unaltered. Passes for members to the Fire Brigades' Annual Demonstration was struck out.
