At a meeting of 130 Matabele chiefs at Indaba Lord Grey, administrator of the Rritish South African Company, offered them salaries to control the district with the assistance of white men. The chiefs expressed delight at the offer, ami profusely thanked Mr Cecil Rhodes for what he had done for them.
