EUROPEAN AND FOREIGN. London, Sept. 29. Frederick Barnard, artist, was burned to death at Wimbledon through smoking'in his bedroom. Prices are irregular at the wool sales, and the selection inferior. The rebels are gaining strength in the Phillipine Islands, and it is reported that 100 monks have been massacred. Australasian rabbits are selling freely for forward delivery at Is each. Hares, too, have improved in price, and are quoted at 3s. The increased price is due to rain stopping shooting. The wheat market has been very active of late, and a further rise of Is per quarter is recorded this week. Pakis, Sept. 28. The Meteorological Conference at Paris have approved of Mr Wragge's scheme for the establishment of permanent observatories upon Mount Mosciusko in New South Wales and Mount Wellington at Hobart. St. Peterburgh Sept. 29. A number of Nihilists, including several professors, have been arrested here. Beblin, Sept. 29. A strike of 5000 dockers has taken place at Hamburg for an increase of wages. Cape Town, Sept. 29. Major Watts has been acquitted by a court-martial for the execution of a Mata"bele chief.
