ATTEMPT TO RECOUP LOST REVENUE. Melboubne, Sept. 29. "With a view to recouping the annual loss of £BO,OOO resulting from the reduction a couple of years ago of railway merchandise rates, Mr Matheson, Commissioner, of Railways has decided upon a reclassification. Whilst in many cases the rates will be raised, some lines, especially produce, -will be made less burdensome. The scheme includes devices to create new sources of revenue and cutting competition to obtain a share of the traffic at present carted by teams and water.
