At the wool sales competition was very brisk, and the highest prices were realised. One hundred and five warships, including 15 battleships, 25 cruisers, and 20,000 sailors, will join in the naval manoeuvres. July 14. At a meeting of 20,000 miners at Chesterfield, it was decided that the men should oppose the proposals of the masters. Most of the Unions are in favor of an advance of ten per cen in the hewing rate. The Czar of Russia purposes visiting Queen Victoria next summer. The Great Powers object to the British Consul in Crete dispensing British charity, though the Sultan and Lord Salisbury are both agreeable to his doing so. Mamiid, July 13. Yellow fever has broken out among the Spanish troops operating in Cuba, and the death rate is GO per cent. Brussels, July 14. English Socialists to the number of thirty have been expelled from Belgium for inciting the Antwerp dockers to strike. Rome, July 14. The Empress of Abyssinia is reported to have entertained the Italian prisoners, showing especial honor to General Albertone.
