THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

SEA VOYAGE AFFECTING NEW ZEALANDERS.

Sydney, May 5. The tennis tournament was begun to-day, when the single championships opened the proceedings. Parker (New Zealand) beat Curtis (the University representative) by three sets to one.

Colqulion (Sydney) beat Collins (New Zealand) by three sets to one. Dr Hughes (Sydney), who won the Queensland championship, beat Gore (New Zealand) by three sets to love.

Contrary to expectation, the first round of the ladies' singles was also begun too. Miss Nunnely (New Zealand) beat Miss Clift by two sets to one. The latter, however, suffered under the disadvantage of having injured her ankle severely in a previous game. The New Zealanders were evidently suffering from the eftects of the sea voyage, and did not play up to form. They have arranged to play a teams' match against New South \\ ales next Monday.
