Yesterday the Union. Australasia, and New South Wales Banks decided to reduce the maximum rate of interest on fixed deposits to 3 per cent., and advances rates to be proportionately affected by the change.

The National Bank reduces its rates from 4 to 3A per cent.

The Bank of New Zealand declines to go below its present maximum of 8| per cent. The Savings Bank remains at 3J per cent.
