G.arst, in reply to a question by Mr Henniker Heaton in the House of Commons, said he had received a request frora the Government of South Australia, similar to Sir T. Mcllwraith’s, requesting to be furnished with the name of the proposed new Governor. He had not sent any reply. Referring to the dispute the press generally are adverse to the action taken by Lord Kmitsford. The Earl of Kimberley, speaking at Bristol, said he was afraid England had overshot the mark in her eagerness to strengthen her connoction with the colonics. At a dinner at St. George’s Club this evening Sir Saul Samuel, who presided, said that although the Colonial Office made occasional mistakes he was satisfied that it was still desirous of doing its utmost in the interests of the colonies. Tne St. James’ Gazette urges that Sir A. H, Blake’s appointment should ba cancelled. Truth eulogises Sir A. H. Blake, but says it is impossible now to insist on appointing him.
