A Father’s Thanks.
’TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—You will, I feel sure, afford me sufficient space to record my sincere*thanks to Mr William Soeats for his plucky rescue of my son from inevitable drowning. Had I been myself a witness of the occurence I could have afforded no assistance, and I feel sure-it is not every min who would unhesitatingly have plunged Into the rapid current of the river in pursuit of a castaway boat with a child occupant. Courage, fortunately for our British race, is possessed by most of us, but courage, presence of mind, and ability to app’y their qualities, are not within the compass of all. Mr Sceate was quite sufficiently exhausted when he overtook the boat, which in a few seconds m ire would have been amongst the breakers. A Humane Society’s medal has been awarded for less effort than this—a father’s Bincare thanks for his child’s life are all the return that lies within my power to make.—l am, etc.. Charles Priestley.
