Cowardly and Ungenerous.
[To the Editor.! —Tf anything were wanted to show how much the clique have at stake in the election of the Mayor it is made manifest by the miserable attempt to throw dust in the eyes of the ratepayers in your contemporary’s issue of last evening. The great ground on which the poor unfortunate scivener has to work on ia that Captain Tucker has a claim against the Harbour Board, and, cnnsequentlv. because he ia agent for an estate, is totally unfitted for the position of Mayor and Harbor Board member. Reverse things and look calmly at them. The £lOOO, claimed by Captain Tucker (mark you not for himself) is but £lOOO. Now multiply this bywell say twenty, and we get at something like the profits the clique would obtain should they be enabled to hold their own : and in a most idiotic manner thev sling ink to try to dehberate'y mislead the people. The stupid introduction of a recent court case shows to what vile ends some people can deacen 1. and may be passed over unnoticed -being too much like filth to meddle with. Hateptyera, judge between an honest straightforward man, and a pliable representative of a com-bi.-ia'ion which would crush you could they but do »o.—Yours, etc. RAwaxeb.
