An Unsavory Scandal.
A case of a vary unsavory character Wils heard in the Ballarat City Polio* Court, on 4th inst. The plaintiff wm Thomas Harrison, a local preacher of the United Methodist Church; and the defendant was another clergyman Sthe Ker. James Hicharris) of the same enomination. Plaintiff claimed fiii due As board and lodging for Mra Richards, wife of defendant. Mr Gaunt appeared for the Ke*. 'I hotna* Harrison; and Mr Kirby, of Sandhurst, for the defemdant Jt appeared that the latter is a son-in-law of the plains tiff, and had agreed to pay his father* in law 15s weekly for the support of hie wife. The tdoney was pfiid regili larlv for some months, but on Mr, Kichards hearing that his wife bad been guilty of misconduct with hie father he stopped contributing to hdr support Evidence was given ov both plaintiff find defendant, and letters couched in immodest and filthy language, were read in court. In order to thoroughly grasp the points in the unfortunate case the bench decided td hear a second summons, in which the Rev. Mr Richards was charged with leaving bis wife without adequate means of support. Mrs Richards during a severe cross-examination by'Mr Kirby, admitted repeated misconduct with her husband's father/ The bench dismissed both cases, allowing each defendant £2 2s costs, Mr Kirby remarked that Mr Richards was about to take proceedings against his wife, for d vorce, and that he had been com* pelled through the scandal to resign his position as minister at Too'een, and also his connection with theebuMh, Che father of the Rev. Mr Bictards is about 72 years of age.
