The New Zealand horses, Lord Revel and Royal Tan, ran solidly from poor early positions, but finished out of the places in the Herbert Fewer Handicap. The owner and trainer of

Hurry Up, which was fractious at the barrier, and kicked Lord Revel, received a warning from the stewards against further misbehaviour by the horse.

There was a four-horse camera finish in which Iron Duke, on the rails, obtained the narrowest possible decision over Cragwil, Regal Scout, and Dickens. The Sydney colt, Dickens, looked a certainty beaten when he jibbed and tended to lug in during the race, which was his first on a left-hand track.
