P.A. AUCKLAND, Oct 10. Satisfaction with .conference he had had while in New Zealand was expressed by Brigadier Frank Field, South-west Pacific representative of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, who has been accompanying Mr John R. Minter, of New York, special representative of the fund, on a visit to New Zealand. Mr Minter left for Australia last week and Brigadier Field will leave tomorrow.
“I am not able to say yet whether the New Zealand Government is going to make a further contribution to the Children’s Fund, but we are very hopeful that favourable consideration will be given to a request for further aid that has been placed before it,”, said Brigadier Field. “As a result of my visit to Wellington, the whole amount of th e money remaining at the credit for the Children’s fund in New Zealand has all been committed.”
New Zeaalnd raised £750,000 during the appeal. Since April, 1948, a total of 1000 tons a month of surplus supplies have been, sent from the Dominion to needy children in various parts of the world. Brigadier Field said. He added that no decision had been made about a fresh appeal to the Public, but his organisation was hopeful that another campaign would be launched in New Zealand shortly.
