SHIP TONNAGE RECORDS BROKEN AT AUCKLAND
One Liner Anchors Outside Harbour AUCKLAND, Au-. 21. Because there is no room for another large ship in the Auckland stream,- the Federal Line’s motor ship “Huntingdon” will make port history by anchoring outside of kangitoto, on her arrival from Wellington tomorrow. She will wait there until Wednesda" when an anchor age will be available in the harbour. With nine overseas ships at anchor this afternoon, a new port tonnage record was established. For the first time in Auckland’s history, the tonnage of overseas and intercolonial and :arge merchant shipping exceeded 200,000 gross. The previous record, of 198,261 tens gross, was established last April. The total was increased to 200,138 tons with the arrival of the Huntingdon. The total will again be raised to 216,419 tons gross if two doubtful sailings, listed for tomorrow, are oostponed. The arrival on Tuesday of the Monowai and Maui Pomare will, tor the third successive day, take the figure even higher, and the a~”>-egate tomia.”” will be 226 002 gross.
