The president of the Higher Court in Potsdam, in the Soviet zone of Germany (Dr. Gollot) has fled to Western Berlin, as he feared Soviet Secret Police would arrest him.
The “Vicar of the North Pole”— 66-year-old Catholic Padre Primo Girard, whose parish covered 50,000 square miles of frozen desert from Baffin 'Land to the North Pole, is dead. He lived in an igloo for 22 years, and taught Christianity to the Eskimos.
Mr. Thomas Ryan, aged 79, (says an Auckland telegram) received fatal injuries when he fell down, a flight of steps at a house in Freeman’s Bay on Thursday night. He fractured his nock in the fall, and died before he could be admitted to hospital.—P.A.
Mrs Annie Hunt, aged 70, of Croydon, England is puzzling doctors. At Luton (Bedfordshire) she had to be helped out of a picture theatre, where she had gone to see “Down to the Sea in Ships.” In hospital, she was found to be suffering from seasickness. After treating her, the hospital announced: “This is the first case of its kind we have ever had., Apparently the moving horizon on the screen caused all the trouble.”
The former London typist, Mrs Ruth Khama, now wife of Seretse Khama, Chief-designate of the Bamangwato tribe, in Bechuanaland, Africa, arrived at Francistown by air on Saturday, and was met by her husband. Reuter’s Francistown correspondent says they will leave later by road for Serowe, the headquarters of the Bamangwato tribe. —P.A,
Yesterday Princess Margaret cut her nineteenth birthday cake at a family luncheon and tea party at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland. Princess Margaret was born at Glamis Castle, and has spent all her birthdays in Scotland. —P.A.

The funo-’n.i of Mr Thomas Battensby of Blaketown took place at Karoro cemotm'y on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. F. B. Marshal read the Church of Christ service at the residence and at the graveside and Bro. T. Durkin read the Buffalo burial service.
