BRITISH RATINGS DESERT NAVY IN AUSTRALIA

Want Homes Provided For Wives and Families (Rec. 10.10). SYDNEY, August 21. Former Royal British Navy ratings, numbering 24, of whom 18 are married‘men, have deserted from the Royal Australian Navy, and some others threaten to desert. Their attitude is because they see little chance of bringing their wives and families to Australia. Officers believe that desertions will continue until these men find homes in Australia for their families. There was a recent appeal by the Navy, to Sydney residents, to provide homes for the wives and the families of British naval ratings. The appeal produced only twelve replies.
