Rothschild’s Hunt For Lost Jewels Of Fabulous Value
(Rec 9.40) LONDON, Aug_l9. A European hunt for £250,000 sterling worth of Rothschild jewels which disappeared during the Nazi occupation of France has begun says the Associated Press Frankfurt correspondent. It is believed Herman Goering arranged for their removal to Germany. The jewels are in six cases containing hundreds of pearls, emeralds, diamonds and other precious stones belonging to the famous Rothschild banking family. The hunt has been organised by Guy and Edouard de Rothschild, th? French branch of thb family. They have promised high rewards to persons returning the jewels and have set up a three-man board to ensure a just distribution of rewards. The board comprises a former United States prosecutor in Nuremberg Professor W. Kempner, a French lawyer, and a German lawyer. ANOTHER TREASURE HUNT (Rec 11.5) LONDON, Aug 19. A scientific expedition is to search Marano Lagoon in Venice for treasure of fabulous value, said to have been dumped there by Attila, King of the Huns, in the fifth century says the Daily Mail’s Rome correspondent. Signor Fontani, an archaeologist, who is directing operations, claims that he was told of the location by a German woman diviner, who has died in Berlin recently.
