FALSE INCOME TAX RETURNS ALLEGED

P.A. NEW .PLYMOUTH. Aug 19. Decision was reserved in New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court to-day when Richard Abraham Warner, a farmer and stock dealer, appeared before Mr Woodward. S.M., facing allegations that, between 1943 and 1948,' he wilfully submitted false returns of income which understated his income by £12,366, and created a tax deficiency of more than £5OOO. Warner pleaded not guilty to six charges, maintaining that he was unaware of the increase in his business. During the hearing, which lasted ail day, two witnesses were called for the Income Tax Department and one for the defence.
