ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL Town v. Country Match to be Played at Blackball Next Month

A decision to play a Town v. Country match at Blackball on the King’s Birthday (June 2), was made at last night’s meeting of the Westland Football Association. Selectors for the respective teams were appointed as follow's: Town: Messrs Bishop and Berry; Country: Messrs Lee and Balderstone. Mr J. J. Woods presided at the meeting. Also present were: Messrs W. Balderstone, J. Bateman, W. Lee, A. McNeish, R. Lee, G. Erskine, Stone. W. Rafferty, W. Berry, S. Maskill, R. Hodgson, F. A. Bishop (secretary). It was left to the president to interview 3ZR re the broadcasting of postponements at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Following the receipt of correspondence and a discussion on the Peter Dawson Cup, it was decided to notify the New Zealand Council that, the W.F.A. ,considers that the trophy should be reserved for the South Island Minor Associations, and that entries for competition to decide the holders close by the middle of July The secretary was instructed to write to the N.Z. Council confirming the entry of Blackball for the Chatham Cup, and forward the affiliation fee. It was decided to write to Mr J. Hayward, Wellington, advising him of his appointment as the Westland Football Association delegate to the N.Z. Council. A remit from the Runanga Club concerning the changing of the number of selectors from three to one, was referred to the clubs 1 for discussion. A remit from the Blackball Club that each club's players be asked their views was also referred to the clubs. Mr Maskill reported that the Runanga Club had interviewed the Technical School, and that there were three schoolboy teams available. The Runanga. Club advised that, due to unforsee.n circumstances they would be unable to field a team today.
