Avon’s Third Not Endorsed

CHRISTCHURCH, May 22.

Mr J. R Robertson, who is contesting the Avon by-election as an Independent Labour candidate, has received a letter from Mr J. A. Lee refusing his request for endorsement as a candidate for Mr Lee’s Democratic Labour Party. Mr Lee stated he was unable to come down from Auckland to assist a Democratic Labour candidate, and that he considered it “too hard for one man,’' to contest the by-election. Continuing his campaign, Mr Robertson spoke last evening at Bromley. He arrived late at McDonald Hall, Woolston where he had advertised a second meeting, and two or three electors who attended there had gone away by the time he appeared.
