STILL A DEADLOCK

U.S. Coal Dispute OVER WELFARE FUND. (Rec. 8.0). WASHINGTON, May 15. President Truman has conferred with representatives of the coal mine owners and of the miners, but no progress has been made towards a settlement of their conflicting claims on the establishment of a miners’ welfare fund. The discussions will be resumed to-morrow, when the President will decide whether it is worth while again starting negotiations between the disputants. The question of Government intervention in the dispute, including a possibility of seizure of the mines by the Government, in the event of a failure of the negotiations is at present being considered by Mr Truman and his advisers.
