N.S.W. COAL SHORTAGE

THREATENS STEEL WORKERS WITH IDLENESS. (Rec. 9.10). SYDNEY, May 16. New demands on the N.S.W. Government for an immediate introduction of the coal bill framed by Hon. Mr Baddeley (N.S.W. Minister of Mines) have been made by the metal trades group of unions in Newcastle. This follows an announcement by the Broken Hill Proprietary that the continued losses in coal production are threatening the jobs of thousands of the steel workers. Tn Sydney the power authorities are still dependent on daily supplies of coal for the continuation of the services.
