TARAMAKAU RIVER

Breaks into Orangipuku FLOODING AT INCHBONNIE. The heavy rains at the week-end caused the Taramakau River to break through a narrow strip of terrain separating it from the Orangipuku River, and excess water from the former stream caused the Orangipuku to overflow. The break through came into the Orangipuku between the Inchbonnie sawmill and the road leading fropa the mill to the Inchbonnie station. Not only were large paddocks in the vicinity deeply inundated, but the road was damaged. As the flood level fell, the overflow from the Taramakau lessened, and the waters of the Orangipuku returned to their normal course. It was yesterday necessary to have the road to the mill repaired so the transport of timber could be resumed. It has long been foreseen that the Taramakau might overflow into the Orangipuku, which empties into Lake Brunner.
