EXCESSIVE PRICES
DargavHle Firms Fined P.A. DARGAVILLE, January 28. Two Dargaville firms were charged in the Magistrate’s Court with offering goods for sale at prices that did not conform with selling prices approved by the Price Tribunal. The offences occurred in August, 1945, and pleas of guilty were entered. The prosecution was conducted on behalf of the Industries and Commerce Department. Constable T. Cannon said that a Price Tribunal inspector examined marked goods in defendants’ windows. In the case of Williams, Ball and Cannon Limited, a man’s suit was priced at £9 9s, and there was an overcharge of 14s 3d. Another suit was marked £l3, an excessive charge of 10s, while a sports coat was marked £5 ss, or 9s 3d of an excess. In the windows of the other defendant, M. Acheson, a harris tweed with a ceiling price of £l2 and threepence, was< marked £l2 17s 6d. A woman’s frock was priced at £6 8s 6d, instead of £6 and ninepence, while there was a woman’s interlock nightdress marked £1 12s 6d, an excessive charge of 3s 6d. Defendants were both fined 30s, with 10s costs on each of three charges, by Mr W. C. Harley, S.M.
