RUGBY FOOTBALL

WEST COAST UNION MEETING. Mr T. Mclntosh presided over the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening. On the motion of Mr T. O’Donnell, a vote of sympathy was accorded the president, Nir Mclntosh, in the death of his uncle, Mr C. Foxcroft. A series of amendments lo the rules of the Seddon Shield primary schools’ tournament were submitted by the the delegates, and these were approved. Permission was granted to Tech School to play matches in Hokitika on September 25.

Mr Clifford undertook to endeavour to arrange for a representative fourth grade team to play either in Hokitika or in Reefton on September 29. Mr McLean reported on the Seddon Shield match in Blenheim last Saturday. It was decided to send a letter to the Marlborugh Union expressing appreciation of the excellent hospitality shown to the team during its stay, particular reference being made to Mr McKenzie, the Coast team’s local manager. Fixtures for Saturday are:—

Senior: Cobden v. Celtic, Park No. j, 3 p.m. (C. Cockburn); Blaketown v. St. Mary’s, and Kiwi-Excelsior v. Ruatapu, at Hokitika; Star-United a bye. Junior: Albion (Christchurch) v. Cobden, at Cobden, 3 p.m. (R. Ferguson). Third grade: Linwood (Christchurch) v. Cobden, Cobden, 1.30 p.m. (A. King); Svdenham (Christchurch) v. Tech, Park No. 1, 1.30 p.m. (J. Minchin). Fourth .grade: Star-United v. Tech B, Park No. 2, 1.30 p.m. (R. Haglund); Tech v.“Celtic,.Park No. 2. 3 p.m. IN. Eggleton). N.Z. TOUR OF BRITAIN LONDON. Sept, lb The N.Z. Army team’s British tour begins on Thursday next. So far three of the trialists are in England, and' another twenty-six trialists are expected in England shortly from Austria. During the comine- weeks twentynine players will De selected for the tour after trial matches. The team will be captained by C. K. Saxton, who was an All Black, South Canterbury, and Southland half-back.
