WATAROA NOTES
’ [Our Own Correspondent] Mr. Fred Woodham, of the Pig Marketing Association, was a visitor to the district last week. The cold snap has caused the cows to go off a good deal, consequently the pig season is just about finished. Mr. Gaffney, Forestry Department, was a recent visitor to Wataroa. He is always a welcome visitor to the district, and his advice is cheerfully given to farmers. Messrs T. Mcßride and G. W. Thompson J.P., presided al a brief sitting of the Magistrate’s Court held at Wataroa. Mr. Thompson who is 84 years of age, retains all his faculties to a marked degree. The sawmills closed last week for the Easter holidays. There is no doubt that the rest pe'riod will prove beneficial to the employees. A record output of butter fat is expected this season from the Southern Dairy Company’s factory. Mr. Smith, manager of N.Z. Road Services was a visitor to Wataroa last week. Settlers derive a wonderful service from the Road Services. Their drivers are all of a cheerful and obliging disposition. All residents of South Westland are looking forward to the opening up of the silver pine area at Okarito. This will mean a considerable boost for th e timber industry in the district.
