ALLEGED FORGERY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, March 30. Clifford Allan Belcher, aged 36, was charged with on March 3 forging a document (a receipt) purported to be signed by A. A. Mackintosh, for the sum of £3, with ; on March 31 forging a (a receipt) for £2 Bs, and with stealing the sum of £33 19s lOd, the property of the Ashley County Council. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence ,and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, Bail was allowed in the sum of £5O, and one surety of £5O. FAY INCREASE P.A. WELLINGTON, April 1 The increases in pay for members of the armed forces, announced by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) on March 3, apply equally to the Navy and x Air Force personnel as to the Army. This statement was made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) to-day. THE BERWICK SHOOTING P.A. DUNEDIN, April 1 After a shooting incident at Berwick, a married man, aged 54, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 6.30 a.m. on Thursday, with a bullet wound in his back. His condition is reported to be not serious. A middleaged woman, whose name was suppressed in the meantime, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with discharging a rifle at her husband with intent to do bodily harm. She was remanded in 'cusI ody.
