Representatives of . all other State organisations here attended the meeting by invitation. Replying to a question regarding the strike action taken by the railway workers in January, Mr O Keele said: “Direct action vvould be agamst the policy of your Association. The Prime Minister has assured your National Executive that early and every consideration will be given to the recommendations of the Consultative. Committee which was appointed by the Government, at our Association s request, to formulate new salary scales for the entire Public Service. Mr O’Keefe continued: “In response to our Association’s representations, the Railway Tribunal’s findings have been applied to the Public Service salaries, and made retrospective to June 30, 1944. The Consultative Committee are now formulating, with the Prime Minister’s approval, new salary scales, and they will submit their recommendations to the Government for consideration.” '
The following resolution was then passed unanimously: “The Gisborne Public Servants approve of the action taken by the National Executive to have the...salary scales revised. They have appreciated that the application of the Railway Tribunal findings to the Public Service salary . scales is only an interim adjustment, and they pledge their full support to any action -that the National Executive takes to ensure that the recommendations’ of the Consultative Committee are carried into effect.”’
