ST. JOHN’S CHURCH

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. The St. John’s Church anniversary celebrations .were last evening devoted to the younger generation, in the form of a fancy dress gathering at St. John’s Hall, which was filled with nearly one hundred wearing a wide variety of costumes, including Dad and Mum, Highlanders, Nurses .(whose services, together with those of stretcher-bearers were utilised during the evening), Mountaineers, Father’ ■Christmas, and many others of weird and wonderful designs. A grand march, led by the Boyle brothers with bagpipes, resulted in the award for Lest costumes ;; being given to Miss Betty Newell (flower girl) and Rev. W- S; Brettell (Dad). Dances were interspersed with competitions, a “scavenger hunt”, and various other items, and there was a free and easy atmosphere which made for general enjoyment. The evening was brought to a close with supper. Masters Boyle played bagpipe duets, and Miss O. Mosley acted as accompaniste..
