MONTHLY MEETING Mr J. Mulcare presided over Wednesday evening’s meeting of Greymouth Harbour Board. Also present were Messrs F. Williams, Hon. J. Ryall, M.L.C., W. E. J. Steer. J. B. Kent, J. J. Devine, and W. Clayton, also the Secretary (Mr. W. B. Gilbert) and the engineer (Mr. D. S. Kennedy). The .. ’ Treasury Depart men!, wrote remitting wharfages general £625 3s6d, Stale Coal £1651 0s Sd, royalties £3l Bs, State Mines rents £l2 ss, Public Works Department rents £l4, hire of crane, etc, £lB4 12s 7d. r Tiie Department also wrote regarding short payment of £47 1.2 s 9d for wharfage of coal stating that the Railway Department had been authorised this.

'l'he Commissioner of Crown Lands, wrote advising that reserves 1854, 1855, and 1856. reclaimed land, Greymouth, had been vested in the Board under section IS of the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Act, 1944. The Secretary.. United Brunner Coal Mines Ltd. wrote asking for further postponement ’ of rent due on coal lease. It was decided to grant extension for 3 months but to advise that if no money was forthcoming by the end of that time no further extension would be granted. The secretary. Harbours’ Association of New Zealand, wrote enquiring if it was prepared to forward evidence for submission to Shipping committee regarding railway competition with coastal shipping. It was decided to advise that the Board did not wish to tender evidence.

It was decided to make a donation of £lO to the Greymouth Surf Life Saving Club and of £5 5s to the Greymouth Plunket Society. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote regarding application for portion of Cobden quarry by Messi's McLeod and Johnson for lime production factory, asking the board to decide what portion was required for its works. On the same matter Mesrs Joyce and Taylor wrote enquiring regarding use of the board’s siding. The matter was referred to the Enginer for a' report Io be presented ' lO the next meeting, the chairman saying that the whole matter was being considered by the Government.

The Mining Registrar wrote forwarding three applications for prospecting licenses by William B. Tennant, for 100 acres each, between Stillwater Greek’ and Grey electric power line. —Decided to offer no objection. Consent was granted to the following transfers: Section 10, Dobson, Mrs. E. A. Cutbush to N. S. H. Finch; Sects. 44 and 45, Dobson, B. Caldana to Mrs. A. Gardner; sects.49/53, Dobson Subn, F. H. J'ohanson Io A. W. C. O’Brien; sect. 93, Res. 1427. Blaketown, F. D. P. Slater to H. W. Hoskins. . The Finance committee reported that receipts since the last meeting had totalled £3457 5s 4d, made up as follows: hire and sale plant. £196 12s 7d; shipping dues, £517 18s 9d: royalties. £37 7s 8d: rents. £231 17s lOd; accident compensation, £6l Ss lOd; wharfages, £2277 4s 2d; deposits, £125 8s ; weather, £9 7s fid. The Harbour fund had a debit balance of .£7755 6s 3d. The payment of accounts amounting to £3946- 13s 5d wa s recom mend eel. I'he reuort was adopted.
