Th e Pai'is radio announced the death at Hemmans of the former French Premier, Joseph Caillaux,i agel 81 years, stated a London cablegram.
Miss M. P. Rodgers, of the staff of the Rehabilitation Department, who leaves next week on transfer to Nelson, will be replaced by Miss C. Gibson of the Regent Theatre staff.
The engagement is announced or Mary Kathleen, third daughter > of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Warick of Dunollie. to William Desmond Darby (overseas) third son of Mrs. E. P. Connors and. the late Mr. P. J. Darby of Waiuta.

The death occurred on Wednesday evening at Greymouth, of Mrs. Emma Jane Talbot, a native of Birmingham. Th e late Mrs. Talbot, who had been ill for some time came to Greymouth about a year ago, to reside with her grand-daughter, Mrs J. Condon, Blaketown having lived for many years in Wanganui. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Arthur Talbot, of Wanganui; one daughter Mrs. L. Brad, of Westport; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A private interment will be held at Karoro Cemetery.
After having been on the missing list for over two years, Private James Sylvester Kennedy, of Greymouth, has been reported killed m action. Born at Kokiri 37 years ago, he rad been educated at the Marist Brothers’ School, Greymouth, ana worked on the wharf here for many years. He formerly played Rugby football for the Blaketown Club. He enlisted and left New Zealand at the end of 1940, being reported missing after the battle of El Alamein in 1942. He was on e of a number or other New Zealanders with Sergeant (now Lieutenant) Upham, when the latter was awarded the Victoria Cross. His mother, Mrs. J. E. Kennedy resides in Blake Street, Blaketown, and he also survived by two sisters, ’Mrs. J. E. Stokes (Cobden), and Mrs. R. Boddy (Blaketown) ana one brother Mr. W. Kennedy (Westport;) - ■ 1 '
