When he was involved in an accident at Boote and Party’s co-operative mine, yesterday morning, a miner, John Doyle, married, of Runanga, received a fracture of the i-ight leg. He was admitted to the Grey River Hospital, and his condition last evening wa? reported to be satisfactory. Though there is yet a week before the season closes, whitebait fishermen have not been prominent on the banks of the Grey River during the pa?t week or more, and it is apparent that supplies of fresh bait will be at g premium, authough good catches, destined for canning, are yet being made in South Westland. Early in this week there was an unexpected run in the Grey River and thd few optimistic fishermen operating -secured catches, exceeding a kerosene tin, which met a ready sale at 2s a pint. A remarkable feature was th e excellent quality of the bait, which were particularly small, while the shoals were free from blackbait and similar fish.
