BOGUS COUPONS

NO CURTAILMENT OF LEGITIMATE PETROL SALES.

P.A. WELLINGTON, July 4. The Acting Prime Minister, Hon. D. G. Sullivan stated to-dav that he had no hesitation in reassuring private motorists tnat it was not the intention of the Government, as a result of the circulation of the counterfeit coupons, to deprive private motorists of any petrol legitimately due to them. “I would like to make it quite clear that if, for administrative reasons, it becomes necessary to stop the sale of petrol' to private motorists for a short period, as the result of the counterfeit coupon issue, then- the private motorists will be able to redeem any unused legitimate coupons which may be temporanily cancelled, or of course, equivalent coupons as soon as the sale of petrol to private motorists is resumed. No ether thought has at any time entered the mind of the Government.”
