U.S.A. M’OVE FOR REDUCTION ABROAD. (Rec. 8.40) NEW YORK, July 4. President Roosevelt has approved a joint Congressional resolution requesting him to urge the governments of the opium-producing countries to limit the production and to impose stricter controls on the traffic.

The countries concerned are the following: Afhghanistan, China, Iran, India, Russia, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Japan, and Hungary. The tw r o last named countries will not be approachable until after the war. Britain and Holland have already announced an intention to prohibit the use of opium for smoking,"and to abolish the opium monopolies in their territories. China prohibited opium smoking in 1941. Senator Fall announced that the State Department was making ' immediate contact with the countries concerned.
